El Retablo del Génesis es un proyecto integrado por dos trabajos complementarios, Retablo del Génesis (2016-2019) y TTW’s_Antecessor (1987-2023).
Retablo del Génesis, compuesto por 10 paneles integrando un gran conjunto pictórico de 5,60 x 15,40 metros.
El Retablo del Génesis es la evocación de una tragedia y la crónica de la convulsión que cambió el rumbo de la historia. En el retablo se representa el acontecimiento seminal del siglo XXI y se cuenta con imágenes lo que ha sido escrito en la novela Pastoral iraquí (Basilio Baltasar, Pastoral iraquí, 2013, Editorial Alfaguara). La destrucción de las Torres Gemelas, la Guerra de Irak y la encadenada sucesión de castigos y venganzas truenan desde entonces en la mente contemporánea. El estallido que inauguró el comienzo del siglo reverbera con fuerza en el imaginario colectivo y su onda expansiva no disminuye con el paso del tiempo.
TTW’s_Antecessor lo componen 10 paneles fotográficos, cuyas medidas se encuentran entre los 80 x 80 cm, la más escueta, y los 80 x 231 cm, la más grande. Se muestran en sentido lineal del uno al 10.
En mitad de una compleja investigación íntima, que está llevando a cabo desde hace año y medio, Antoni Socías descubrió en su archivo fotográfico (2022) una colección de imágenes inéditas, fechadas en 1987 y a las que no supo dar en su momento la importancia que se merecían. Se trata de un proyecto llevado a cabo en las terrazas de antenas de la Torres Gemelas de New York. Socías eligió diez fotografías para que formaran parte de su trabajo Retablo del Génesis, a modo de preámbulo premonitorio del drama que iba a suceder años después, en septiembre de 2001, y que nos iba a marcar a todos de por vida. En ellas el artista cubre gran parte del objetivo de la cámara con sus propias manos, para evitar que el gran templo del capitalismo desbocado pueda observar las maravillosas vistas de la ciudad.
